No Sew Window Treatment Ideas

June 15, 2016

No Sew Window Treatment

Making a curtain from a vintage sheet was the first thing that came to my mind when I spotted this cool vintage sheet. I fell for the soft faded colors, that are just perfect for my farmhouse kitchen. I bet you can’t tell that my window treatment is actually a bed sheet.

My patio door has been a challenge when it came to adding a window treatment. I needed some privacy, but I didn’t want to add blinds to this door. This bed sheet was the perfect solution.

As you know or maybe you don’t know, that I don’t sew. Not because I can’t sew, but I don’t have a sewing machine yet. I know, I know, I need to get a sewing machine! I know how easy it would be to sew easy things like curtains and pillows. And I did take a sewing class in high school.

How To Make A No Sew Curtain

This is so easy to  make that’s it’s silly. Seriously, if you don’t sew I’m going to share a HUGE secret with you. Are you ready? My secret to making these curtains, hemming curtains, or even making a pillow is this stuff called Heat and Bond. I love this stuff as much as I love my hot glue gun. I’ve shared that my hot glue gun is my best friend and it truly is!

So let me show you how ridiculously easy it is to make this new sew curtain. First I folded my sheet in half and cut it down the center. This is a king size sheet so it is quite large. Next, I folded over the edge and used iron on webbing/ heat and bond to give it a crisp clean look. Then follow the directions on this heat and bond. And that’s it! I told you that it was super easy to do. I think it literally took me 10 minutes to make this sheet curtain, I’m not even kidding!

Hanging these curtains is super easy too! I already had curtain clips so I just clipped these on my sheet and hung these up. Yes, it was that simple!

If you feel like this is too sheer, buy a painters tarp, then using the curtain clips, clip the sheet and painters tarp together. This will give you a light blocking curtain.

You can watch this video below to see how easy this is to do.  I used this same heat and bond to hem my daughter’s valances that I found at a thrift store.

Love that fabric. Some of those old curtains are great. Years ago I made a lot of curtains for different houses out of sheets. Remember those heavily ruffled ones? I made A LOT of those! That was a great idea to hang then over the ones you had there so that they appear lined. Perfect!

Good luck with The Scoop- xo Diana

Such pretty soft colors in the curtains, Anne. And very clever not to sew them! Just adore that ladder of yours, too.

I love the muted colors in your new curtains, Anne! I wish I could hang floor to ceiling curtains, but we have baseboard heaters that get extremely hot and the fabric would burn. You did a wonderful job without even owning a sewing machine! Very pretty.

Those boots are too cute Anne !!!
And love your new ” curtains ” – I don’t sew – not because I don’t have a sewing machine – but because I don’t know how to use it LMHO – is that ridiculous or what? Bought one about 5 years ago and have never used it!

These are so pretty! I always have some of that tape, but never think to use it. It would be MUCH easier than dragging out my sewing machine, huh?

And the pink boots? so darling!

You are so smart to make curtains that way. I love how they look! I don’t sew either, but would like to one day have a sewing machine and learn how to use it. I use the iron on tape or fabric glue too. It’s a life saver, isn’t it?

I love it Anne. What an ingenious way to make the curtains without sewing. I bet it does look beautiful with just adding that small amount of color. Love those boots. I know what you mean about if your daughter was small again. Mine was always clumping around in boots from grandma’s or from her dad’s work boots! Fun memories..Happy Thursday..Judy

Great curtains!! I am so happy with some I bought at a thrift store last week. They are white with lots of white embossing on them. They were yellowed, but I thought for $12 for 2 pair??? I soaked overnite in oxyclean and washed and rinsed with liquid starch. Hung them up wet…… AND they are absolutely gorgeous!!! Love transformations…..

Those sheets will keep a good look for your back door/dining area for long time. There have been several times I used those curtain clips, gave me good alternative when I was lacking enuf fabric to sew rod casing. Heat &Bond is great alternative to sewing. Love soft look of sheet and colors, perfect for your style. Many times have had to change method of making curtains due to lack of fabric or flaw in fabric hadn’t seen before. When you live out a ways from fabric store as we do have to be ready to compromise idea. Once I start something like to keep going. Always good to be able to figure other ways to do things. Hope you had wonderful weekend
