Most of my work is done on the computer, we have a desktop and laptop. I prefer to work on my laptop because it's more comfortable. Although my photo editing is done on our desktop because the monitor is calibrated better. Call me paranoid but I worry about my laptop sitting on my lap for too long. I wonder what the effects of those batteries are if they are sitting that close to my body. Let me show you how I made this easy DIY Shabby vintage lap desk. This is what I was using for my laptop, this large breakfast tray. Besides being really large, it's not very comfortable at all, and pretty ugly too! I could go out and purchase a new lap desk but I am too cheap frugal. And I knew that it would be really easy to make my own. While I was out thrift shopping I came across this ... View Post
Soft Lilac And Spring
Sometimes a color strikes me, but I don't always have that color in my paint collection. Lately I have been enjoying touches of purple. It must be that spring is soon approaching. I found this clock several years ago, it's non-working, but still very pretty. I had an idea, to paint this lovely old clock a soft pretty purple. So I pulled out my Heirloom Traditions paint in Nickle and added a touch of Blushing. I was hoping for a soft lilac purple. Instead I got more grey than a soft lilac purple. Because I am not afraid to experiment, I then pulled out a bottle of Purple acrylic paint that I had. I added a little to my paint, and it still was too grey. I keep adding squirts of paint and mixing it up until I got the color that I was looking for. I love this color! And I ... View Post
Hanging Butterfly Art Spring Mantel
I must admit I don't really decorate for spring, I mean my home is Shabby Chic inspired. So all year long I keep my pastel pinks, greens, and blue's out. I may tweak things, and move things around, or put something away and make room for a new piece. But I don't dismantle my house to change a season. For fun I decided to make a hanging butterfly art from vintage wallpaper. That's sounds weird but I really don't know what else to call it, and oh, it's Shabby Chic inspired of course ;-) I am going to hang this near my spring inspired mantel. Let me show you, are ya ready? Supplies - Wall paper , vintage if you can find it - Photo of a butterfly - Pencil - Tacky Glue - Invisible wire - Scissors - Thumb tack for hanging , if needed. First let me share how I created this ... View Post
DIY Fails Chalk And Fabric
So you think everything I share comes out perfectly. That can't be farther from the truth. When I get an idea in my head I go for it, never knowing what will happen. Recently I shared my framed chalkboard wall. Then I had an idea and thought it would be fun to make my own chalk. What luck I had while I was thrift shopping, to find a mould that would work perfectly for making chalk! So I went out and purchased Tempera paint, because I was told that you need to use tempura paint if you want color chalk. It's not supposed to stain or leave a marks on your wall if you use tempura paint. I had all of my ingredients. - 1 cup of Plaster of Paris - 1/2 cup of water - 1 tablespoon of Tempura paint - Plastic cup - Spoon (not one that you eat with :-) ) - Mould I wasn't sure if I ...
