In keeping with my simple fall decor this year I am keeping my mantle as is but adding a few white pumpkins.Well actually I think they are gourds. But we call them mini white pumpkins in this house. All are real except for the faux white one on the end.I am looking for a real one that size.I just have not found it yet so faux it is.Well at least for now.The real ones were all found at my farmers market. Some dried hydrangeas from my garden in an old milk bottle.I kept everything else the same on here.I just recently changed this and I like it so why change it. Oh I did add this sweet little piece to the mix.Found at a garage sale.It is a petite tureen! I have never seen one so little! The pattern is beautiful and has lots of crazing and that lovely brown color from age.I love this ... View Post
The Great Pumpkin Patch
I have been busy decorating for fall.I am keeping it very simple this year.Just using Heirloom pumpkins and things found in nature.A little vignette in my dining room.A large white pumpkin.I love these! I recently found that sweet little table at a barn sale! I really want to paint it .But it is a antique sewing table. Can you see the measure on the table? I really love that and I don't think I could paint it! And yes that is a paper nest.I found that at a yard sale today. They had five of these! I bought three and my friend bought one.I am selling one for now.I really hate these on my house. But they are quite beautiful! And fits in with my nature theme.I know Mr. Cottage is going to think I have gone crazy!!!A shot of my dining table.Keeping it really simple. Here is a close up.This pumpkin ... View Post

Adding an Old Door
Well I am sure you know how much I love old doors.I think I have mentioned this a few times. And shared my favorite doors HERE and HERE. I moved my farmhouse door to my kitchen and since then have not been happy with the way it left a bare spot in my family room corner.I have tried different things. But I really loved that door there. It added height and interest. On Friday it was a rainy day but I did get to a few garage sales. I scored!!! I found an old door! I know an old yellow door nothing special. It was not even chippy. But I really loved the hardware and I knew I could make it special. Here it is the after. I painted this with a coat of Annie Sloan duck egg blue and a coat of old white.I sanded it down a bit to show the duck egg blue and a little bit of the yellow.I found that old etched ... View Post
Create A Faux Patina Using Chalk And Milk Paint
Create A Faux Patina Using Chalk And Milk Paint I really love the layered look of paint. I'm sure that you've stumbled onto those pieces of furniture at a flea market that show the wear of time. It's chippy, crackled and perfectly worn. I decided to experiment with my mantle and see if I could recreate a faux patina using chalk and milk paint. I know architecturally it does not look old . But with a little paint I thought I could give it an aged, distressed patina. So what inspired me to do this? Well it wasn't just the old chippy, distressed pieces that I love it was also something I saw in a movie. Do you ever really look at movie sets? I can't remember the movie now, but I was watching a movie and noticed the mantel was old and chippy looking but the mantel itself didn't look old. I ... View Post
