Distressed Furniture

Distressed furniture is so easy to create! I ‘m always pushing the bar trying to think of new and creative ways of adding patina to pieces of furniture. Let’s face it, finding those pieces that have original paint and patina are hard to find, and they can be expensive too. Yeah, I love those chippy pieces.

Sigh…..it’s a love affair I have had for a long time.

Seriously my heart skips a beat when I come across a cool vintage piece with the perfect color and patina. Below is one of my favorite pieces. None of the texture or patina is the same on this piece. It also has a few other colors peeking through, from the years of being painted on over and over again. Which makes me love it even more. It’s those imperfections that are perfection to me.

As I said I do prefer finding vintage pieces already with wonderful chippy patina. Since we can’t always find those pieces sometimes we have to fake it to we make it and create our own chippy patina.

Here are a few tips on creating distressed furniture.

No Sanding Required-

Really, cool Shabby Chic pieces can be quite expensive depending on where you live. I like to create each piece as authentic as I can. Just sanding the edges on a piece is not always enough for me. I have been experimenting with several new ways to distress furniture. And each one of these techniques does not require sanding!

Each Piece Is Unique-

I don’t use the same distressing technique on every piece. Each piece is unique. However I will use several distressing techniques on one piece.
