It's been awhile since I have shared the newest Shabby Treasures from the shop of White Lace Cottage. It's been so cold here the past couple of months I wasn't out treasure hunting much. And when I did venture out, there was not much to offer. I am pretty picky about the selections I make for the shop. I only purchase pieces that I like and would enjoy in my own home. So I am pretty excited to share new offerings for the shop! I love pink and roses, and when it's a Rachel Ashwell piece or something that looks like it, well it comes home with me! This does not have tags on it, so I am not sure if it's a Rachel Ashwell duvet cover or not. I asked for a little help on this over on Instagram, do you follow me there? Because I share lots of pretty inspiration everyday! Anyway.... I ... View Post
Creating Patina With Paint
I have been playing around with paints more than usual lately. One reason is that I was recently introduced to Heirloom Traditions paint. I have used several chalk type paints before, but this is by far my favorite. And one of the reasons I am now selling it. Not only is it a wonderful paint but an amazing company too! I will never endorse or support a product that I would not use or believe in. And when the company is as good as Heirloom Traditions it's a win-win! I decided to do an experiment to see if I could get a more authentic patina with paint and dark wax. Creating patina with paint is very easy to do, let me show you how. I had this old stool, I think it may be a milking stool. It was already painted white. I took out my Heirloom Traditions paint in Nickle. I applied ... View Post
Great Patina And Exciting News!
Sometimes I find pieces that have pretty details, but the color is all wrong. If it has great patina I usually pick it up and take it home. Like this pair of candlesticks. The design and patina is perfect, but not the color. I decided to paint these using Buff Rose by Heirloom Traditions. Since this already had great patina all that was needed is a fresh coat of paint, and a little dark wax. After I applied one coat of paint, and it was fully dried I applied Muddy Pond soft wax from Heirloom Traditions. Muddy Pond really highlighted those imperfections. To apply my wax I used an old t-shirt rag, and applied a small amount by rubbing it onto my candlesticks. And here is what they look like now. See all of that crusty chippy patina. These look so much prettier painted with ... View Post
Shabby Ribbon Roses And Spring
Did you know that we change our clocks forward this weekend? It's hard to believe it but we do! I can feel spring is coming, but as I look out the window at this cold and blustery winter day I know we still have many weeks before it even begins to feel like spring. That's not stopping me from adding a few spring touches to my home. Nothing elaborate, really very subtle changes is all that my home really needs. I don't like clutter. I am always finding craft supplies at the thrift store, especially lace and ribbons. This ribbon can be used for so many crafty projects, or for wrapping a gift. Today I decided to make a few Shabby ribbon roses, and with this wire ribbon this was very easy to do. All I needed is my ribbon, a pair of scissors, my glue gun along with some glue ... View Post
DIY Spring Hurricane Candle Holder
I never know when inspiration will strike. Like last night while I was laying in bed I thought of what I could create using my hurricane candle holder that I recently found while thrift shopping. Seriously, tell me you do that too. I was thinking tissue paper and my hurricane lamp. This morning after dropping my daughter off at school I ran out to our craft store and picked up some pretty pink tissue paper. You knew this was going to be pink right? You can use any color you want. This is what you will need to make your DIY Spring hurricane candle holder. Supplies - Hurricane candle holder (look at thrift shops, I found mine for 3.00 but you can purchase these at craft stores for 10.00) - Tissue paper ( pick at least two colors, any color) - Foam brush - Modpodge - Plastic cup ... Diy Shabby Vintage Lap Desk
Most of my work is done on the computer, we have a desktop and laptop. I prefer to work on my laptop because it's more comfortable. Although my photo editing is done on our desktop because the monitor is calibrated better. Call me paranoid but I worry about my laptop sitting on my lap for too long. I wonder what the effects of those batteries are if they are sitting that close to my body. Let me show you how I made this easy DIY Shabby vintage lap desk. This is what I was using for my laptop, this large breakfast tray. Besides being really large, it's not very comfortable at all, and pretty ugly too! I could go out and purchase a new lap desk but I am too cheap frugal. And I knew that it would be really easy to make my own. While I was out thrift shopping I came across this ... View Post
