Vintage Linens

June 22, 2014

When I am out treasure hunting I am always on the hunt to find vintage linens especially sheets, pillow cases and bedspreads.

I am sure you know that I am always attracted to those soft muted colors especially pieces that have roses.

rose bed spread vintage

I only buy pieces that are in good condition,I never buy linens with stains, holes or smells.

Washing does not always take stains or smells out.

I found this sweet bedspread many years ago,it was already faded with time.

But in the years I have had it and as it’s aged the fabric has become softer and the colors have faded just a bit more.

vintage rose blanket

I have used this as a table cloth and also on my daughter’s bed,a true treasured piece.

Sometimes I do part with treasures that I have enjoyed for years, but I have a few pieces that I may never part with.

I have been collection vintage sheets for many years,my daughter has no idea what a new sheet is like because she has always had vintage.

vintage shabby sheets

When she was little just out of her crib her first bed was a 75 year old antique bed.

It was painted white and was not only antique but a full size bed.

I remember putting bed rails on the side so she would not fall out of her bed.

rose pink sheet

She still has a full size bed but it’s not her original bed, about a year ago I found another gorgeous antique bed.

You can see the bed HERE.

She is lucky because most of the vintage sheets I find are full size or queen.

pink faded rose sheet

I wish I could find King size those are harder to come by,but I have found them.

This sweet sheet is adorned with a bit of lace.

I have such a hard time passing up vintage blankets especially pieces like this one,it’s so soft and faded.

This one is getting pretty thin, but I cannot bare to part with it.

If I can no longer use a blanket I think they are pretty displayed, propped over an old ladder or in a basket.

Those are beautiful, Anne. I guess king size beds came to be much later so there aren’t any really old linens in that size.

Just beautiful! I’m drawn to the same soft, faded colors and floral patterns. There’s something about a soft blanket or quilt that makes me want to curl up in it and take a nap.

When I was a child, sheets were white. Period. In my 20’s, colored sheets began to appear, very pale colors, and they were all the rage, of course. I’m 75 now and cannot even recall when printed sheets made the scene, so I’m trying to figure out just what time period your florals came from. Do you know? Love your blog and look forward to seeing what you’ve done with your favorite pink roses.

Cheryl I am guessing the 1960’s or 1970’s on the sheets. And that rose spread possibly the 40’s but not sure. Thanks so much for your sweet comments!

Pamela I have used chalk paint on fabric. But if you are not familiar with it and not comfortable painting a chair with it then I would suggest getting a piece at a thrift shop for very little money and practicing first.

I adore vintage sheets and pillowcases also. They’re a bit harder to find around here, especially the soft white and rose colors, but once in a while I’ll happen across one. The last vintage pillowcase I picked up was meant to become a dress for one of my Littles, but I’ve been using it as just a pillowcase. It makes me smile when one of the girls asks to sleep on the yellow roses, so I think a pillowcase it will remain.

ABOUT THIS BLOG

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Hi I'm Anne.
I started this blog many years ago to share my passion for home decor. My tastes have changed and so did I.
We recently moved to Florida and we are starting a new chapter. My main focus on this blog has shifted. With that I'll be sharing more than home decor.
You'll see makeup tips, skincare, fashion and a little bit of decor as well. You can check out my Youtube channel as well and follow me along. I'll leave all of my older posts up as a reference. But you'll see lots of changes.
