Decorating My Screened In Porch

May 12, 2015

If you have been following along you know that I have been making changes on my screened in porch.

One of the changes was painting and adding a stencil on my floor, you can read about that HERE.

Now it’s time to start decorating my screened in porch.

I mentioned that I wanted to add a little color in my screened in porch, and some pieces were going to come back and others would not.

Here is a shot of my furniture before.

shabby porch

This photo was taken last summer before I painted the floors.

I painted the chair cushions, the color of our house, boring!

I don’t know why I thought that would be a good idea when I did it the first time.

I guess I was not thinking very far ahead since I wasn’t sure what I was going to do to the floor.

So, here is my table in our room now.

Now you can see why I wanted to keep the floors a neutral color.

I could have repainted the chairs, but I like the rusty patina.

For now I just painted a sealer on the chair to keep them from rusting too much.

The chairs were painted a custom color.

Using Heirloom Traditions Synergy and my signature paint color White Lace.

The can of Synergy was almost empty so I just added White Lace into the can.

Synergy is the same paint color that I used in my kitchen on my island and farm table.

I used more white lace and just a little of the Synergy color.

Although it’s hard to tell from the photo, it looks like I did the opposite, but I didn’t.

When you are mixing a custom color, make sure you mix enough.

If you don’t you will never be able to replicate that exact color.

If you have extra left you can always store it in an air tight jar.

I painted my chairs two coats of paint.

This is just one coat, but what a difference from the two colors.

They do go well together, my floor has this same color as the chairs were originally.

Once the chairs were fully dried, (I let these dry over night).

I applied two coats of Aqua Clear in a matte finish from Heirloom Traditions(follow directions on the can)

I will be adding this to my shop soon!

aqua clear

Aqua clear is not for “Outdoor use”. But my porch is covered, I am fine with experimenting to see how this holds up.

I used wax on my outdoor chairs last time and they held up beautifully.

And wax it not meant for outdoor use either.

But it is a great option for a top coat for furniture, kitchen cabinets and other surfaces.

This is a water based urethane, and  it has very little odor.

You don’t need to use much, as it goes a long way.

I figured you would want to know a little more about this product.

Okay back to my porch.

I really love this pretty pop of color, what do you think?

This is such a fun faux tablecloth, it’s actually a shower curtain.

I had it on my kitchen table too.

But it really works with the color out here on the porch.

Underneath this tablecloth is a metal mesh table.

A table cloth is require for sure.

I don’t often use my pretty dishes out here, but I may have to because they really go well with the new colors out here on the porch.

I added my newly painted pillows that I just created using Paint-A-Pillow, you can read about that HERE.

But I am not done with this room, I have much more to share.

Those chairs with the pillows, not done yet.

I did add a new bench out here too.

Now, once it starts to get nice out we will enjoy our porch.

It’s yet another cold and windy day here in Illinois, what’s new.

Not much is blooming in our garden yet.

It looks pretty bad, this year I hired a crew to come out to clean up our yard.

I just can’t do it it anymore.

Last time I over did it, and I ended up having physical therapy for tennis elbow or tendonitis.

Growing older is not  fun!

My mind says I am 25, but my body doesn’t agree.

I am still getting over this horrible cold.

Me and my family have been wiped out with it!

And on top of it, it’s allergy season, oh joy!

How is your garden doing?

Have you been able to get out and work in your yard yet?

Hi Anne, just came in from my garden for a coffee break….. aaahhh, wish you would live just around the corner . Your screened porch looks wonderful. So fresh & relaxing. A perfect place to manage your hired “ground crew”. In my case : the dogs watching me while I`m digging ….but it`s going to be beautiful in the garden – every day another flower is smiling. That`s the reward for all the hard work and the smell of the first roses today is just amazing….
Enjoy your lovely porch ! Wish you warmer weather !

I love the color you used on your porch and the furniture. Looks nice so far, can’t wait to see more.It is a little chilly here in Okla. but in between the rainy days we do have some sunshine and roses, although we had a lot of hail last week that wiped out some of my little garden and roses. Hope you feel better soon.

Love the color, it’s just perfect! Thanks for adding the tip about mixing up enough color. I ran into that problem the other day and you’re so right that it’s almost impossible to get the exact same color again. Can’t wait to see the rest of your porch reveal! jonni

Love the new look. It goes to show that a little paint can make a huge difference. I am moving at the end of the month and I am so excited to create a different look on a very tight budget by painting some of my furniture. Once again, thanks for the inspiration Anne!

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Hi I'm Anne.
I started this blog many years ago to share my passion for home decor. My tastes have changed and so did I.
We recently moved to Florida and we are starting a new chapter. My main focus on this blog has shifted. With that I'll be sharing more than home decor.
You'll see makeup tips, skincare, fashion and a little bit of decor as well. You can check out my Youtube channel as well and follow me along. I'll leave all of my older posts up as a reference. But you'll see lots of changes.
