It’s The Little Things

August 19, 2014

Sometimes it’s the little things in life and in decorating that can make the biggest impact.

It’s no secret that I love vintage treasures, but sometimes hunting is the best part.

I love surrounding myself with pieces that I love, and pieces that are not perfect but show the imperfections.

As  I started putting things away from the sale and started organizing my studio I felt the urge to purge.

I kept asking the question why am I keeping this piece or that piece?

And while I am cleaning my studio and changing things around I feel the need to do the same in my home.

But I don’t want to by anything new.

And I don’t want everything changed.

Somethings will stay as the were, because I like just the way it is.

But it’s the little things the small changes, like a fresh bouquet of flowers.

Vintage Chippy Door

And taking out a piece of furniture that held pretty dishes, but was starting to feel cluttered.

Instead I added this old chippy door with this sweet crystal knob.

I am feeling like….less is more.

And I would rather have special pieces, even though it may be less.

Then a cluttered room of pieces that are pretty, but don’t really mean anything…you know?

vintage french chandelier

This French Chandelier really speaks to me.

And just that added sparkle is enough to light up a room, all the rest is fluff that I don’t need or want.

white chippy vintage door

My mantle will stay the same….for now.

But I am thinking of changing the color just a bit in this room.

I am feeling a little blue lately.

Don’t worry the wall color is staying the same.

I am thinking of recovering my chairs.

Ah yes a project coming soon!

rose painting

But I do still have a thing for pink, especially roses.

Yes I do have touches in my home of pink, but just small touches.

As much as I love pink and roses,I don’t like to over do it.

angel wings

Love the sweet soft touch of these Angel wings.

That’s all this wall needed,a chippy old gate and these sweet Angel wings.

Yes I am changing some things around.

And yes some things will remain the same.

But some things will be going away because lately I am feeling…..less is more.

Must be the change of season.

I am enjoying this wonderful heat, because soon it will be a little chilly around here.

And if you know me then you know I am a summer girl!

Are you doing any changes in your home?

Well, Anne, don’t change too much because it is all so pretty now as is. We are doing a few changes around our Cottage too but, I’m afraid, less is never enough for me. I always start out trying, but little by little it all comes back..Guess that is what makes the world go round..Happy Wednesday..Judy

Anne with the move, I am keeping only things I truly love. Downsizing means letting go of stuff that you like but don’t really love. I am still going to save item to change around in the house but as I said they will be pieces I love.

Wish I could be there when you let things go, but then do I need more things? I need badly to purge big time. I’m going to rent a storage garage til it cools off so I can get all the stuff out of my front hallway and poor little sewing room. It’s more than time to clean it up and out. Our shed is full of too much of my stuff also. Would be nice to be able to work out there in winter, (no garage). Feels like everything is flowing over and not in a good way. Getting stressed out looking at things I know need to be addressed. When it cools off I’ll go get 2 or 3 boxes at a time to go thru and dispose of “things”. Mostly anymore we’ve been taking it to thrift store. Otherwise the things seem to creep back into house again.
I was just reading post about cleaning out, decluttering on Cottage in the Oaks, must be that time of year. I have to say thank you to both of you for reminding me so I can’t ignore it anymore. Time to act. Happy Wednesday

JaneEllen sometimes it feels like such a big thing to tackle doesn’t it? But this is my approach to going through thing and organizing. If I don’t use it or have not used it but I am just holding on to it,then it’s time to go.I had lots of things like that.I sent them off to the thrift shop and I have another car load left tomorrow, yes a car load! But it feels wonderful to have less.

I do like a “less is more” approach to decorating too. I think it feels more comfortable and less cluttered. I’m excited to see what changes you make. I’m getting ready to makeover my kids bathroom upstairs. I just bought the paint today! Fall always puts me in the mood for home projects.

Everything is so beautiful. Love the angel wings on the old wooden fence. Where did you get your wings? I have a small old rusty gate.

ABOUT THIS BLOG

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Hi I'm Anne.
I started this blog many years ago to share my passion for home decor. My tastes have changed and so did I.
We recently moved to Florida and we are starting a new chapter. My main focus on this blog has shifted. With that I'll be sharing more than home decor.
You'll see makeup tips, skincare, fashion and a little bit of decor as well. You can check out my Youtube channel as well and follow me along. I'll leave all of my older posts up as a reference. But you'll see lots of changes.
