The Scoop Handmade Christmas

December 7, 2013

I am thrilled to be a part of The Scoop Handmade Christmas!

I recently shared my home Christmas tour part 1 and part 2

But I did not share this wreath I made to hang in my living room.

This may come as a surprise but I am really not a crafty person.

I don’t always come up with ideas on making crafts.

When I was volunteering at my daughters school for parties, I was the Mom that was there to help but had no creative ideas!

This year I was thinking of making a peppermint candy wreath again this year.

It is pretty and fun to make but I wanted something a little different, but with the same look.

wreath1

This is a very easy project.

I used a 10 inch white styrofoam wreath.

You can use any size wreath but I would recommend white,it is very forgiving if you have some spaces in between the ribbon and wreath.

I used 6 spools of red and white stripped ribbon.

Each one of my my ribbon spools  is 3/8 x 15 ft.

At first I was going to just push cut pieces of ribbon using two prong floral pins.

But it was not working.

One side would push in and the other would not.

Then I had a light bulb moment, what if I used my tracing stylus.

And that is just what I did!

You can see my stylus has been around for awhile.

I have had this stylus for many years.

Folk-art painting was a hobby of mine at one time.

I cut my ribbon pieces into 5 inches.

I did measured it for this photo but I did not measure as I was working.

I just eyeballed each piece and cut as I went along.

Take your cut piece and fold the ends together to make a pretty bow.

Place that ribbon piece on your wreath.

I did not place all of my ribbon bows in the same position.

It looks nicer if you place each one a little differently.

ribbon4

Use the larger side of the stylus and push the ribbon into the wreath.

ribbon5

Keep working around the whole wreath until it is all covered on the front and sides.

You don’t want to add any ribbon to  the back because you want the wreath to lay flat against the wall or door.

I just hung my wreath from a little white ribbon.

If you don’t have a stylus think outside of the box.

A wood skewer may work well too!

This wreath is very light so it could be hung anywhere indoors.

But I would not hang it outdoors.

That’s adorable! I love how much it looks like peppermint candies. I’m sure that was an easy project but I bet it was time consuming! Thanks for sharing the tutorial. You sound about like me. I like to do easy crafts, but often need to get ideas from someone else first.

Very pretty, Anne! I did folk art painting years ago, too, and immediately recognized the stylus. 🙂 .

Hi Anne, Really liked the wreath project, I to recognize the Stylus and I was a Folk- Art painter too. I even taught classes. I love the look of the wreath, because it is so much prettier than the candy kind and it does look like Ribbon candy. I like your blog, you are doing a very nice Job. I miss getting your posts on Face Book, but I can look up your web page, it takes more time, but I do like your posts.

    Anne,
Looks great with all your white and goes with your pinks…. Such a great idea for a light-weight wreath…
Anne, everyone uses someone else’s designs to spark the creativity for their own designs. What makes each person’s design special is the way the person tweaks the design. You used ribbon instead of candy peppermints and the wreath turned out fantastic.

So glad to be on The Scoop tour with you,
    Merry Christmas

Love your wreath. Bet it was fun too do. I bought a wreath today with similar ribbon but it is wired at both ends . Ribbons are knotted on to a wire wreath and a big gingham ribbon finishes it off . Is it too soon to put up ???

ABOUT THIS BLOG

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Hi I'm Anne.
I started this blog many years ago to share my passion for home decor. My tastes have changed and so did I.
We recently moved to Florida and we are starting a new chapter. My main focus on this blog has shifted. With that I'll be sharing more than home decor.
You'll see makeup tips, skincare, fashion and a little bit of decor as well. You can check out my Youtube channel as well and follow me along. I'll leave all of my older posts up as a reference. But you'll see lots of changes.
