DIY Repurposed Lamp Coat Stand

March 15, 2015

While out treasure hunting with a friend a year ago I came across this old standing lamp.

The thought of turning it into a tall candelabra for our screened in porch came to mind.

I was thinking of painting it, then adding faux flicker candles.

But after a year later, it was still sitting in my storage.

I am starting to get things ready  for my sale, so I had another idea, what if I repurposed this lamp into a coat stand.

Yes, that’s it!

Next I started to gather my supplies.

The first part of this transformation was cutting the cord off , then cleaning this well too!

Then I took out my Heirloom Traditions paint in Buff Rose and started painting this lamp.

And when I say painting this lamp, I mean everything.

After the paint was dried on  this lamp,  I decided to cover the sockets.

I could have purchased socket covers, but I wanted to use what I already had.

So I took out my favorite vintage wallpaper and make my own socket sleeves.

Once I figured out how big of a piece I needed, I cut the excess off then glued the ends together using my hot glue gun.

I wanted this to look a little prettier, so I added a little lace trim that I already had, and used my hot glue gun to glue to cover my seam.

After adding my wallpaper socket covers, it still needed something on the top of the sockets.

I looked through my supplies that I always have on hand and noticed a set of rose shaped glass knobs I had never used.

I thought these would be perfect to add to the tops of my sockets.

The only problem was the screw, I needed to cut these off first.

So I pulled out my hand saw and carefully cut these off.

Then used my 9001 glue to attach these glass knobs to my sockets.

And here is my finished repurposed coat stand.

It’s hard to see those glass knobs in this photo because of my lighting.

Here is a close up of those knobs.

This was an easy project to do, keep an eye out for these old lamp stands.

I see these often when thrift shopping.

I have one of these in my laundry room that I purchased from someone else.

But I love this one better, first off…..it’s pink.

Second I love the added rose knobs to the top.

The stand I have in my laundry room has pointy things.

I don’t even know what they are, but I always worry about those things poking holes in my sweaters or jackets when I hang them.

Although I use our coat hanger mostly for bags.

We store our coats in our lockers.

Guess what….I am painting in my kitchen again!

Working on a new project, adding a little color once again in my kitchen.

Sharing soon!

Thanks so much Colleen.I didn’t do anything with the middle socket, I left it as it was other than paint it.That works great for hanging hats!

Why not add a glass door knob for the top middle space?! Would make it look finished.

It’s too big of an opening for a knob, it wouldn’t fit 🙂

ABOUT THIS BLOG

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Hi I'm Anne.
I started this blog many years ago to share my passion for home decor. My tastes have changed and so did I.
We recently moved to Florida and we are starting a new chapter. My main focus on this blog has shifted. With that I'll be sharing more than home decor.
You'll see makeup tips, skincare, fashion and a little bit of decor as well. You can check out my Youtube channel as well and follow me along. I'll leave all of my older posts up as a reference. But you'll see lots of changes.
