Not Too Shabby Makeover

May 12, 2014

My daughters bathroom makeover is not too shabby.

Well is it a bit shabby chic romantic,I am thrilled that my daughter loves pink as much as I do.

Which at her age is probably a rarity.

Let’s look at what it looked like before I started.

bathroo1

Yes here I go again ready to get started and almost forgetting to take a before shot.

Her bathroom was painted a light green, and she had those builder grade lights, that’s why the step ladder was there.I was getting ready to take those down.

This is just a mini makeover, replacing the floors was not an option.

As I said my daughter still loves pink as much as I do and she wanted a shabby romantic look in her bathroom.

Are you ready for the reveal?

shabby bathroom

This is a narrow bathroom so it’s hard to get a full shot of the room all at once.

I painted her walls the same color as the rest of my home.

You can view the recipe HERE.

The cabinets were painted using Vintage Market and Design paint in Porcelain, one of my favorite colors.

The knobs are from hobby lobby for 3.99, but on sale at 50% off!

pink cabinet bathroom

crystal chandelier

And yes I added a little bling in here too with this sweet chandelier.

See that mirror in the background, that was a recent thrift find.

Here is a closer look at the mirror, love the details don’t you.

shabby mirror

Yes this mirror was also painted with the same color as the cabinets, porcelain.

Love the reflection with this mirror, being a small bathroom with no window it’s nice to have added light reflection to make it brighter.

Speaking of mirrors I also framed out that mirror above her sink.

What a difference,it really pulls the room together.

As I mentioned in my last post a wonderful associate at our Home Depot cut each piece for me.

This was so simple to do once it was cut.

These pieces of trim were already primed pieces, but I did paint the other side of them because of the reflection in the mirror.

But just know that whatever color you choose will be the color you are stuck with.

This is what I mean, say you decide to paint it white on the front and underneath, and a year from now you want to paint it the mirror black.

The color on top will be black but you will see the reflection of the white color showing through,so keep that in mind when you are doing this.

Also if you think you are going to change the color then I would use smaller pieces as I did.

You can get pretty fancy with this and use larger pieces but you will see more of the color underneath and you will see the adhesive.

The adhesive I used was Strong stick by dap,it really bonded as soon as it was attached to the glass.

shabby romantic bathroom

I found that sweet clock at Kohl’s , I like the clock on her counter instead of on her wall.

That two tiered basket was found at Home goods a few years ago,it has been lots of places in my home.

And that chippy green ladder is just for photos not sure it will be staying in this room.

shabby cabinet

This cabinet was found recently while treasure hunting,if you follow me on instagram you  saw me snap a photo when I found it.

This was painted a creamy white color, but it was dirty so I painted it…..drum roll……porcelain of course, see I told you it’s my new favorite color.

pink hamper

I also found that vintage hamper a few months ago while treasure hunting,it was yellow and I painted it pink using a custom mix.

I don’t remember what colors I used,I just kept mixing until I got the color I wanted.

Her shower curtain was also a thrifty find I found quite awhile ago,I knew it would make it in this room eventually.

See how narrow this bathroom is.

But she is lucky behind the door is her huge linen closet, wish I had that in our bathroom.

shabby bathroom2

Her bathroom rug was found at Target,it’s made by Fieldcrest and is a pretty pink that matches the cabinets perfectly and is so soft too.

All the colors work wonderfully with the floors and her counters, two items that are not going to be replaced anytime soon.

But just goes to show you what the power of paint and some thrifty shopping can do!

I am finally finished with every room in my house, well I will be tweaking and changing things here and there but no major makeovers.

I think my husband is pretty happy to hear that 🙂

So pretty! I have one of those porcelain knobs but it’s not all cracked like yours – is that just age or did you do something to it? Yours looks so much cooler than mine…

    Anne,
This was a sweet make over for your daughter’s bathroom. I love the pink and all your sweet touches to the room. It is beautiful. Hope your Mom’s Day was a good one. I got a lot of planting done yesterday so my summer garden is coming to life again. Ohhhhhh how nice with the long and harsh winter we had.

Your daughters bathroom is so sweet now! I bet she loves using it now. It’s nice that she has her very own bathroom and you could decorate it just for her. I love the ladder you have leaning in there (even though it may not stay there). I like the green color mixed with the pink.

Now that’s a very lucky daughter having her own specially decorated bathroom. Pink seems to be popular color this year, the softness is very soothing to look at, let alone be in, also very flattering. Love big mirror across from vanity. You did great job Mom, everything looks gorgeous. Happy week

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Hi I'm Anne.
I started this blog many years ago to share my passion for home decor. My tastes have changed and so did I.
We recently moved to Florida and we are starting a new chapter. My main focus on this blog has shifted. With that I'll be sharing more than home decor.
You'll see makeup tips, skincare, fashion and a little bit of decor as well. You can check out my Youtube channel as well and follow me along. I'll leave all of my older posts up as a reference. But you'll see lots of changes.
