How To Force Paperwhites

November 5, 2013

I thought I would share how to force paperwhites.

These bulbs take 4-6 weeks to blossom.

I bought my bulbs a few weeks ago and they are starting to sprout.

Although I should wait at little I decided to start mine early.

I should have taken them out of the bag they were in,they must not have been ventilated well.

I like using white bowls or ironstone pieces from my collection.

First add some pebbles,I am using marble nuggets I found at my nursery.

Add it to about half way of your container.

Add enough water that the water level line is just below the bulbs of the paperwhites.

You don’t want add too much water because this will rot the bulb.

Add the bulbs on top of the rocks and that is it!

I place these paperwhites all around my home.

Once they begin to root I add them to a sunny spot.

As they grow they tend to tip a little so I will add a little twine to keep them straight.

You can also add these to a deeper container to keep them from tipping.

But I enjoy mine in these white bowls.

If you like save some and plant them at a little closer to Christmas, and in January you will have pretty paperwhites growing.

I hear some people tell me that they don’t like the fragrance of paperwhites but I do.

I enjoying having real flowers in my home this time of the year.

When I see a sale  on flowers especially roses I buy them in bunches.

After they bloom I dry them, just by hanging them upside down.

I love the scent and there beauty.

Even when they are dry the texture and color is still beauty to my eyes.

I saw Debra’s post with her Paperwhites from last year and put them on my list of things to buy. I wasn’t sure how to grow them, but you’ve done the research for me, so it should be easy. Thanks for the tips, Anne!

I’m on the same vibe. In trying to make sure I could blog every day this month, I decided on off days to show the slow growing of the paperwhites. I love them. Thanks for your post.

ABOUT THIS BLOG

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Hi I'm Anne.
I started this blog many years ago to share my passion for home decor. My tastes have changed and so did I.
We recently moved to Florida and we are starting a new chapter. My main focus on this blog has shifted. With that I'll be sharing more than home decor.
You'll see makeup tips, skincare, fashion and a little bit of decor as well. You can check out my Youtube channel as well and follow me along. I'll leave all of my older posts up as a reference. But you'll see lots of changes.
