Garden Toad And Other Ramblings

May 28, 2013

Today while I was out in the garden shooting some photos I just about stepped on this toad.

Actually I thought the toad was a frog.

I get the two mixed up.

According to the internet search I did this looks like a fowler’s toad.

frog

I am always happy to see frogs or toads in my garden.

They love to eat insects.

I don’t like insects especially mosquitoes!

I am thrilled to share with you my lilacs!

Yes they have finally started to bloom and they smell amazing!

lilacs

I also planted some lilacs this year. But they are still quite small.

A dogwood tree was planted a few years ago.It is really starting too look nice!

I was hoping to share what I have been working on.

Nothing big just some small changes I have made to our laundry room.

I found some cage light covers on decor steals.

The light fixture I originally had planned to use these on will not work.

I was trying to think of what to do.

And then I remembered I wanted to get rid of the ugly fixtures I had in my laundry room.

These have a name in the decor world I won’t share it but I am sure you know what I mean.

My husband and I have always hung our own light fixtures.

It is an easy process …..normally.

In all the years we have done this I have never run across a light fixture I could not hang until now!

I spent hours trying to hang this.

The cross bar bracket will not fit the electrical box.I have tried this so many ways and it won’t work.

For now we have no lights in our laundry room.

Good thing I have a window and temporarily I added a small lamp.

And while the electrician is here I will have him add another light in our laundry and also hang a light in our foyer just outside our laundry.

I know this post is all over the place isn’t it?

Well I have one more thing to share.

I recently came across a vintage porch post.

These are normally pretty expensive so I usually just pass them by.

But I found this one for 15.00!

It has a nice chippy patina and works great on my built in shelf.

This is such a strange shelf I always have a hard time deciding what to do with it.

That piece in back of the post is part of an old door I cut it in half and will use the other part somewhere else.

I added some faux greens on top.No way I am putting anything real on top and watering it that’s for sure!

This seems to work here for now.

Your spring garden is looking so lovely Anne. We have a lot of frogs in our garden and my husband is always removing them from our pool…. they treat it like their own watering hole.

Love all of your beautiful flowers! They look so romantic. Wish I could grow lilacs here. I hate to hear about your new light fixture not working. It’s so cute too! Love your new porch post too. That was quite a bargain!

Your flowers are looking beautiful, Anne! I’ve only ever found one frog…er toad in our yard. I hear them, but can’t see them.

I had an old chandelier rewired and ready to hang in the guest bedroom, but changed my mind to hang an ugly ceiling fan instead. We don’t have central air, and the upstairs bedrooms get mighty hot in the summer. That’s my holdup now. Picking the least offensive ceiling fan for the room. I hope your electrician gets all your lights up and working!

I saw my first 2 toads of the Spring this morning while watering. I like them too. Your post looks great where you put it. That does look like an awkward shelf to decorate but you did good. And I had the same problem putting new light fixtures in our older house 5 years ago. I can’t for the life of me remember what I had to do but they work now so I must have figured something out. lol

Such lovely flowers, I bet they smell heavenly. We have tons of toads and the dogs like to chase them, but they are poisonous to them. Thanks for sharing and good luck with your light fixture.

Don’t you just hate when things do not go as planned? I know the feeling, especially when I am looking forward to getting started with something and have to put off finishing the job. Walking in your yard and seeing those pretty flowers surely must make you feel better though. They are lovely!

ABOUT THIS BLOG

Hi I'm Anne.
I started this blog many years ago to share my passion for home decor. My tastes have changed and so did I.
We recently moved to Florida and we are starting a new chapter. My main focus on this blog has shifted. With that I'll be sharing more than home decor.
You'll see makeup tips, skincare, fashion and a little bit of decor as well. You can check out my Youtube channel as well and follow me along. I'll leave all of my older posts up as a reference. But you'll see lots of changes.
